Heart Band Sampler
(One Day, Intermediate, some prestitching required.
Course Description:
The project is a small band sampler stitched on 24 count Congress Cloth, which finishes to approximately 5 x 10 inches. It is stitched with Watercolours, 3 matching floss colors, a metallic for glitter, and small beads and hearts for embellishment. Necessary prework involves basting the fabric so that the student can easily remove the appropriate threads and weaving the threads back to secure them. Techniques taught include the 2 hemstitching techniques, various satin stitching motifs, eyelets, needleweaving, layering stitches, and interlacing. Proper finishing techniques as well as the mock picot edge stitch used in the finishing are also taught.
Class Goals and material covered:
The class goal is to teach the student an appreciation for band samplers and various mixed counted thread techniques as well as good finishing methods. The class includes some traditional “canvas” stitches with the thought of breaking some of the strict fencing we sometimes put around groups of stitches as “canvas” or “counted thread” or “crewel”, for instance. Design concepts and the different ways to use overdyed fibers for best affect are also discussed. Students will be offered a variety of color options.
Kit Contents:
Kit cost $20.00 (including shipment of prework.), 24 count Congress Cloth, all fibers to stitch the sampler, beads, embellishments, needles, colored instruction booklet and colored photograph.
Student to bring:
10 x 14” stretcher bars, tacks, frame weight or clamp, laying tool, usual stitching supplies, light magnifier, and extension cord if needed.
Student Level:
Intermediate, student must be able to read charts and have a good understanding of stitching techniques.
